This site came about when Nick Collins, a descendant of Belinda Ball Benjamin, sent me the Civil War Diary and Letters written by William J. Ball. William's story links from his page.
The Ball Family, William, Sarah Jane Neyhardt, and their three daughters, relocated to California by the newly available transcontinental railroad in the early 1890s, establishing themselves in Auburn, California. There, the family joined the First Congregationalist Church and William became the proprietor of a store selling music and art supplies.
